The GCSCC proud to have participated in the high-level workshop “Strengthening AI Cybersecurity Preparedness and Capacities in the Mexican Context”, held in Mexico City on 8–9 October 2025.

Organised by the Mexican Ministry of Foreign Affairs (SRE), in collaboration with the Organization of American States (OAS) and its Inter-American Committee against Terrorism (CICTE) Cybersecurity Section, the British Embassy in Mexico, the World Economic Forum (WEF) Centre for Cybersecurity, and the GCSCC, the event brought together representatives from government, industry, academia, and civil society to address the evolving relationship between artificial intelligence (AI) and cybersecurity.

A Global Collaboration for Shared Security

The two-day event reflected a strong spirit of international cooperation. Day 1 included welcoming remarks from Ambassador Ulises Canchola, the Special Envoy for Emerging Technology of the Mexican Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Susannah Goshko, the British Ambassador to Mexico. This was followed by a series of sessions led by OAS/CICTE to build awareness of AI cybersecurity risks and activities in the region and a joint presentation form the WEF Centre for Cybersecurity and the GCSCC on our collaborative research into cyber resilience and AI cybersecurity risks and rewards

Day 2, included a presentation by the British Embassy highlighting the United Kingdom’s evolving national cybersecurity strategy and the application of the National AI Cybersecurity Readiness Metric. This collaborative approach exemplifies how cross-sectoral and international partnerships can accelerate progress toward safer and more resilient digital ecosystems.

Testing the National AI Cybersecurity Readiness Metric

During the event, we had the privilege of presenting and testing the prototype National AI Cybersecurity Readiness Metric, a pioneering tool designed to help nations assess and strengthen their preparedness for AI-related cyber risks.

With the metric workshop GCSCC researchers facilitated in-depth discussions with Mexican stakeholders on key AI cybersecurity themes, including national risk management, incident response, regulation, standards, education, public awareness, and digital trust. Participants offered valuable input to apply the metric to Mexico’s specific context and provided feedback to enhance its value as a globally applicable diagnostic tool. Building on previous trials of the metric is Mongolia and Cyprus, this event represented an essential step toward ensuring that the metric effectively supports national cybersecurity capacity-building efforts.

Looking Ahead

We would like to extend our appreciation to all partners and participants for their collaboration and insights. The lessons learned from the Mexico workshop will inform the next phase of the National AI Cybersecurity Readiness Metric’s development, ensuring it continues to serve as a practical and globally applicable framework for policymakers navigating the challenges and opportunities of AI in cybersecurity.

The National AI Cybersecurity Readiness Metric is part of the work the GCSCC is undertaking with LASR.
