Our Impact

We understand that actionable and impactful knowledge contributions are key to the global advancement of cybersecurity capacity and the important work of our partners. Good cybersecurity capacity may underpin greater adoption, safety, trust and use of cyberspace and it is our aim to gather evidence to confirm that.

Academic, economic and societal impact has been at the forefront of our mission, where impact is defined as demonstrable contributions to:

shifting understanding and advancing scientific method, theory and application of the GCSCC’s outputs across and within disciplines; and
advancing society and the economy, benefitting individuals, organisations and nations at large.

Consequently, our areas of impact have been focused on three key outputs: stakeholder adoption, influencing policy and research contributions.

Through the deployment of the CMM and dissemination of our research findings, the GCSCC has influenced and shaped the policy debate and policy-development process in the field of cybersecurity capacity at national, regional and global levels.

The GCSCC has actively socialised the CMM across sectors, to drive conversation around cybersecurity capacity and to help improve global technology. The resulting adoption of the model by various stakeholders demonstrates the positive impact that the research is having by supporting government self-assessments and informing industry resource and tool development.

More recently the GCSCC’s research has expanded to include empirical outputs, such as a study of awareness campaigns in Africa, as well as quantitative empirical research that uses existing datasets available from the ITU, WEF and others. This has allowed the GCSCC to present concrete results on the impact of cybersecurity capacity.

During the past two years, the GCSCC has been enhancing the knowledge generated through the extended use of the Cybersecuirty Capacity maturity for Nations(CMM) through the globe by analysing the wealth of data that this has produced to develop the evidence-base for assessing the effectiveness and relative value of capacity-building investments in cybersecurity. We have produced research on the impact of overall capacity-building, the methodology to collect data on cybersecurity capacity, and the impact and effectiveness of specific capacity interventions such as awareness-

Our Constellation of Regional Centers

The GCSCC has initiated a regional strategy by establishing regional collaboration partnerships with centres of excellence in key locations around the world. Two collaborations have been established with the Oceania Cyber Security Centre (OCSC), Melbourne, funded by the State Government of Victoria, and the Cybersecurity Capacity Centre for Southern Africa (C3SA) which will seek to deploy the CMM in the respective regions. In future, the GCSCC hopes to establish further partnerships in both Asia and Latin America.
