Cyber Security Team Travel Far and Wide to Advise Governments

The Global Cyber Security Capacity Centre has developed a new model to assess cyber security capacity maturity. It is working with key stakeholders across the international community to apply the model around the world.

Researchers have been undertaking pilot studies in a wide range of countries, in Jamaica and Colombia in co-operation with the Organization of American States, under the auspices of their collaboration with the Inter-American Development Bank, and in Armenia and Kosovo with the World Bank. Further assessments are planned alongside the World Bank, including in Bhutan and Montenegro in March. These studies use an assessment tool premised on the Centre’s model, being developed as part of these collaborations.

The Centre has also advised the Government of Jamaica on its new National Cyber Security Strategy, launched at the end of January 2015.

The Centre’s new model will help make future cyber security measures become more effective by providing a methodology to understand and measure what exists, and how to enhance it. It assesses the quality and effectiveness of cyber security capacity over a range of key themes, or ‘dimensions’:

  • cyber security policy and strategy
  • cyber culture and society
  • cyber security education, training and skills
  • legal and regulatory frameworks.
